So, there’s this thing that keeps popping up in my dash - the 2 week vegan diet challenge, on a very tight budget ($30/ 2 weeks - which needs to include $2-$4 bus fare for each grocery store trip) and with some very severe menu restrictions (no tofu, beans, hummus) and the individual in question needs to consume 2500 calories/day.

I’m passionate about being vegan. I’m also a realist. I’m also poor. I don’t want to outright dismiss the concerns that arise from this challenge - that veganism is a privilege and that to deny such is classist - but I also feel very skeptical about the regulations placed on the challenge. That is to say I’m not sure any diet could meet the requirements and I think it might be a trap.

Basically, I’m interested in what other people think about this. Most of the commentary I’ve seen thus far has caused me to raise my eyebrows, so I thought it might be a good idea to post something about it and maybe open up a dialogue. At the very least I’m venting my general unease about this whole thing.

Thanks.
